The cop, the seat belt and the fat farang | Bangkok Post: opinion

This is a result of spending four decades in Thailand not wearing seat belts in the back -- primarily because there weren't any. I attempted to attach the belt, but it was clearly designed for a more svelte body than my sorry corpulent frame. I was still grappling with the belt when the taxi stopped abruptly. "No wear seat belt," he said gleefully and I inwardly groaned, picturing more red notes heading for the bottomless "widows and orphans fund". Even worse, there was an audience of teenagers waiting to board the taxi, who found this farang being extracted from the rogue seat belt quite mirth-provoking.
